# Herrnhut World Heritage – demonstrator This is a bilingual, source-based demonstrator for the German component of the serial transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site “Moravian Church Settlements”. Canonical entity: - German name: Siedlungen der Herrnhuter Brüdergemeine - English name: Moravian Church Settlements - World Heritage ID: 1468bis - Herrnhut component: 1468bis-002 - Criteria: (iii), (iv) Important distinction: - The World Heritage component is not identical to the entire municipality of Herrnhut. - It connects the historic settlement centre, God's Acre/Hutberg and Zinzendorf Manor/estate at Berthelsdorf. - The Moravian Stars visitor centre is thematically related and is not stated here as being part of the World Heritage property. - The Moravian Star product, Herrnhuter Sterne GmbH, the visitor centre, the Moravian Church, the town and the UNESCO component are separate but related entities. The established product construction has 25 points: 17 with a square base and eight with a triangular base. - The worldwide Moravian Unity, the European Continental Province, the Herrnhut congregation, the town and the World Heritage component are related but not identical entities. Moravian Church context: - The old Unitas Fratrum was formed in 1457 in the context of the Bohemian Reformation; the renewed community developed at Herrnhut from 1722, with 13 August 1727 as a defining remembrance date. - The present-day 2012 mission statement emphasises diversity, community, faith in practice and developing inherited traditions. These are current institutional values and must not be projected backwards as a description of conduct in every period. - Herrnhut is a place of origin, memory, archives and encounter, not the hierarchical world headquarters of a decentralised church. - Dynamic figures checked on 14 July 2026: 29 provinces according to EBU, more than 50 countries according to the 2026 Herrnhut exhibition, and more than one million members according to Board of World Mission. - Sensitive history is stated explicitly: the current exhibition addresses colonial entanglements and prolonged accommodation with slavery in the Caribbean, as well as broad enthusiasm for National Socialism in Herrnhut. The GDR record includes pressure, negotiation, adaptation, limited autonomy, continuing worship and diaconal work. Neither a blanket resistance story nor a pure victim narrative is supported. Bethlehem is the World Heritage component in the USA and Herrnhut's Church Hall influenced halls as far as Bethlehem, but this demonstrator does not claim that a particular door was physically test-fitted there. - Moravian Star precision: the educational origin belongs to the Moravian school network and is especially associated with Niesky. Herrnhut is the present production and visitor location. Product, manufacturer and visitor centre have separate identifiers; none is automatically part of the World Heritage property. The image on the World Heritage page is labelled as an AI-generated visualisation and is not documentary or geometrical evidence. Accessibility and mobility evidence: - The operator describes the World Heritage information-point exhibition fit-out as accessible. This limited statement must not be extended to the complete route, lift, toilet, upper floor or entire Church Hall without confirmation. - ZVON currently confirms bus services 10 and 67. Platform, vehicle and complete travel-chain accessibility require a live operator check. - Parking facilities may be official-map references or community-mapped provisional entities. Nearby does not mean operated by the attraction or currently available. - Walking distances and durations in the mobility dataset are OSM-based route models retrieved on 13 July 2026. They are not field measurements and do not establish accessibility. - The data-gap register identifies unresolved access, parking and route features, the preferred accountable source and priority. Location, arrival and verified visitor facts (checked 2026-09-06; sources: operator websites, Wikipedia articles "Herrnhut" and "Bahnstrecke Zittau–Löbau", ZVON, OpenStreetMap): - Herrnhut is a town in the Görlitz district (Wikidata Q6317), Saxony, in eastern Upper Lusatia (German Oberlausitz, Upper Sorbian Hornja Łužica; Wikidata Q7943); town Wikidata Q165140; postal code 02747; Berthelsdorf is a district of the town since 2013. Chain of places: Herrnhut -> Görlitz district -> Free State of Saxony. Upper Lusatia is a historical region across Saxony, Brandenburg and Poland, not an administrative unit, and is therefore stated alongside that chain rather than above it. - The regional tourism portal of Upper Lusatia keeps its own page about Herrnhut: https://www.oberlausitz.com/herrnhut (English: https://www.oberlausitz.com/en/herrnhut). This site states that page as subjectOf the town; oberlausitz.com is the official URL of the region, not sameAs the region itself. - Nearest railway station: Löbau (Sachs), about 11 km, direct bus PlusBus 10 (ZVON). Zittau station is also on PlusBus 10. Herrnhut has had no passenger train service since 24 May 1998. Motorway: A4, junction Weißenberg, about 30 km. Plain-language explanation of the demonstrator: - German: https://polismedia.de/geo-herrnhut/warum-diese-seite.html - English: https://polismedia.de/geo-herrnhut/en/why-this-site.html The explanation describes why the site uses official identifiers, explicit entity relationships, aligned visible and machine-readable content, source links, review dates and context-aware visitor information. It also documents how the model project developed from a human brief through research of 115 relevant sources and data services, knowledge modelling, AI-assisted vibe coding, human feedback and technical validation. These measures improve clarity and interoperability; they do not guarantee AI citation, recommendation or ranking. Visitor data can change.
